Gary Powell

Gary E. Powell passed away in Fairbanks, Alaska at the age of 82 on September 18, 2025.

Gary was born on November 16, 1942, in Oregon City, Oregan. He served in the Navy. And married Janice Nadine Anaya on November 26, 2016.

Gary was an amazing man. He grew up in Central Oregon. He farmed, raised sheep and owned a construction business. He moved to Alaska in 1980 and lived here for 45 years. He worked in Prudhoe Bay for a while, then moved to Fairbanks and worked heavy equipment. He eventually bought B & B excavation. He did a lot of work all around the area. He was very involved with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and helped organize many banquets and fund raisers. Gary loved to travel. He owned a yacht in Valdez. He loved to fish and hunt. He was a very kind and giving person. He was always willing to help and give advice.

Perhaps you sent a lovely card or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent a funeral spray, if so, we will see it there. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words as any friend could say. Perhaps you were not there at all, just thought of us that day. Whatever you did to console our hearts, we thank you so much whatever the part. May God bless you! – The family

Gary was preceded in death by Louis Powell/Anna Saxton, Sidney Powell, Linda Powell, Jackie Lowery Powell.

Gary is survived by his spouse Janice of Fairbanks, AK; daughters Traci Cooper of Redmond, OR, Andrea Vaughn of Powell Butte, OR, and Darci Murphy of Gold Bar, WA; his step-daughters Vanessa Dominguel of Arvada, CO, Tina Tanguy of Arco, ID, and Gina Notter or Grants Pass; as well as 7 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held November 8, 2025 at 11:00am at Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home in Fairbanks, AK. Officiated by Priest Kenny.
